Managing Recruitment Stakeholders
The often forgotten part of Recruitment, both in-house and agency is stakeholder management.
Too often the Recruiter is thrown into the role of order taker, “Just find me one of these please” (please optional). To be an effective Recruiter, you need to add value to the process, not just in delivering a candidate, but by aligning and setting the expectation of the stakeholder to ensure that they understand what you are doing and why, and the importance it is to what they want to achieve.
Can you, would you, will you, to quote the Castle, “tell them they’re dreaming?” when a stakeholder wants that rare skill set with 2 days notice? This week Dan Nuroo will lead #ozrec discussions discuss this and the perception issues Recruiters face when dealing with stakeholders.
We will tackle the following questions:
1) How do we explain that Recruitment isn’t just putting an add on Seek, LinkedIn or Twitter, picking one and going ahead?
2) How do you garner respect for what you do when everyone has an opinion on Recruitment and “has recruited” in the past?
3) What is the most awkward situation a hiring manager has placed you in? How can it be prevented?
4) Are you empowered to tell the stakeholders the truth?
About Dan Nuroo
Dan has been described as a recruiting tragic. Joining our industry straight out of university, he has spent the last decade and a half working across agency (ran his own too) and in-house roles, predominantly in the IT sector.
Currently the General Manager of Recruitment for IMA Management and Technology, Dan has joined a great team and has been allowed to use his creativity to ensure that the Recruitment function is the competitive advantage for IMA as the owners had envisioned. His career has mainly been in recruiting for the IT industry and he has sold and been sold to, giving him a strong insight about the world we play in. He has been known to be an early adopter of technology and other “solve the world’s problems” tools and has the scars to prove it. Still a hands-on contributor to his company’s cause, Dan lives to solve those talent problems.
Passionate about all things recruiting, Dan has been an active social media participant across many global forums for many years and seems to have been blogging forever (feel free to connect with him on LinkedIn or Twitter or even Recruitingblogs.com) and you will see him active in most social media platforms (apart from Google+ although he has an account or 2).
Dan is an advocate for the industry, and genuinely believes that people who participate in this industry get a raw deal from the rest of the world. One of his goals is to increase the reputation of the recruitment industry, with everyone. He believes that “what we do is important work, companies who don’t see our value and invest in us, will fail.”
